Chris Thompson

Coach Chris Thompson is entering his second season as the Defensive Coordinator at Gentry High School. Before joining the Gentry staff, he served at Har-Ber High School from 2019 to 2023 as an Assistant Defensive Coach and Director of Athletic Performance for grades 7–12. Prior to that, from 2013 to 2018, he was the Defensive Coordinator, Director of Athletic Performance, and Head Track and Field Coach at Central Junior High.

A native of Springdale, Arkansas, Thompson played football at Central Junior High under Coach Fred Hartsfield, and later at Springdale High School, where he played for Gus Malzahn. He continued his football career at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, where he was a linebacker for the Boll Weevils from 2007 to 2011 under coaches Gwaine Mathews and Hud Jackson.

Thompson earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Health from UAM, followed by a Master’s in Teaching in 2014. He is currently completing a Master’s in Educational Leadership, expected in 2025.

Coach Thompson and his wife, Brittany, who he met in high school, have two children: Zander and Berkley. In his free time, he enjoys grilling, smoking meat, weightlifting, and spending time with his family.
